The
ritual uses of the Crown are myriad. Worn as a personal emblem of one's faith or tradition
or needed by a Priestess, Priest, or celebrant for a specific rite,
Sabbat or
Esbat,
our Crowns provide the wearer with the prefect image to honor their patron
and fulfill their role within the Circle. When a sincere person attends to
the voice of the Divine Within, there is no wrong way to hear.
In many
traditions, the Lunar Crescent Crown is worn by the Maiden. The Matron
is adorned by either the Full Lunar Crown or the Lunar Phase Crown.
The independent-minded, opinionated Crone wears a veil Crowned with whatever
she pleases--not uncommonly the Lunar Phase Crown or the Dark Lunar Crown,
as the mood takes her.
We invite you
now to peruse our ritual Crowns as they have been imagined by our artisans.
Seek with the eyes--listen with the heart.
From antiquity
this has been the traditional Crown of the Lady. It is both emblem and
portrait of the ever-changing Triple Goddess, rendered in bronze: the
waxing crescent of the Maiden, the full lunar disc of the Mother, the waning
crescent of the Crone. Diana, Hecate, Cerridwen, Badh; by whatever name She
chooses to be known, She is as changeable as the weather, yet as constant as
the tides over which She has dominion. Naught can stay the endless cycles
of birth, life, death, and birth again, for She is their source.
Our artisans
must follow certain steps in a particular sequence in order to achieve the
timeless effect of this Lunar Phase Crown. After the casting is completed,
the entire bronze receives a dark golden brown patina. The shadowed
portions of the waxing and waning discs are cast with a finely crosshatched
surface which holds this deep colour. However, the reflective crescents of
the waxing and waning discs, and the entirety of the full lunar disc, are
given a texture drawn from that of the genuine lunar disc above. How
gracious of the Lady to model for us! These reflective surfaces are then
gently burnished, creating highlights in the golden sheen which emphasize
the texture.
